trndmsk Future Stars #2: Karl Friedrich – September
We have started our new Future Stars series last month. Meerblick Records’ Bonjour Ben from Rostock made a start with his “inconnu” mix. Regarding the second edition, we asked Techno and House artist Karl Friedrich from Halle an der Saale to produce a mix. The music producer and DJ, signed by Monkey Safari’s record label Hommage, captivated us with his recently released “Bodies” EP. Most of his productions include a good amount of powerful bass drums, crisp snares, sizzling hi-hats and a well-dosed pinch of vocals. His most recent two-track collection was released by his home record label on August 1st, 2014. As a part of our series, the young musician compiled a 60-minute set titled “September”.
trndmusik: What can we expect from the next 60 minutes?
Karl Friedrich: Just listen! Expectations often are obstructive when it’s about letting yourself in for new music.
trndmusik: Where and how did you record the mix?
Karl Friedrich: That happened at my studio using Ableton in early September. Between 8pm and 5am– those are the moments when I have my peace.
trndmusik: What inspires you?
Karl Friedrich: States of mind, mostly. My aim is to transform them musically so that the audience can extrapolate them. That’s how the music itself is used as a medium of communication for inspiring emotions. In the end, probably all impressions and sentiments are being taken into account.
trndmusik: Your favorite spots in Halle?
Karl Friedrich: 1. Charles Bronson, 2. Klausberg and 3. Sonnendeck.
trndmusik: What are your plans for the near future?
Karl Friedrich: I’m looking forward to so many gigs at the moment– especially our label nights.
trndmusik: Are there any releases coming up?
Karl Friedrich: There will be new productions via Monkey Safari’s Hommage in 2015!
