Cinematic and full of character – UNER and Viviana Toscanini drop their “Ab Ovo” EP on Solar Distance
UNER is back on his own label Solar Distance with a new collaborative EP consisting of two original tracks in the epic style he has championed on other imprints such as Sincopat, Last Night On Earth and Sol Selectas. For this release the couple UNER and Viviana Toscanini joined forces from the studio based where they live together in America and where she regularly DJ’s in places like Brooklyn and New York. The couple previously collaborated on a remix for Franco Bianco’s Dilek Records, but this is their debut collaboration of original material, and there is no doubt it will be the first of many. Having been at the top of his game for well over a decade, UNER is one of the best known DJ’s to have broken out of Spain, and become a headline act performing at high profile events all over the world. Solar Distance is often a platform that gives exposure to fresh or underexposed talent, but it’s also as an outlet for UNER’s own music, and this collaboration with Viviana Toscanini is proof he often saves the best of his tracks for release via his own imprint.
“Ab Ovo” opens the release with a breakbeat groove consisting of pitched tom drums and shuffling hi-hats. Cinematic and full of character, the pads set the scene whilst the eloquent piano adds delicate textures with its emotive tones. Augmented with a hint of acid, this ’80s influenced cut has everything the club needs, whilst also being perfectly tailored to home listening The second cut “Bloomed” has dramatic percussion set amongst the dark atmosphere of the intro. Like a burst of sunlight that announces the subsidence of a cloudy day, the track’s mood lifts when the lead synth is introduced. Moving from dark to light, this exquisite cut of melodic techno has a story telling personality that will set any dance floor alight.
